Desired Features and Common Complaints
I notice a thread discussing when the next firmware release will be. So I thought what should the iRiver developers put into a new firmware (from a community perspective). So let's discuss (a)what features would you like to see in the next firmware release and (b)what flaws do you see in the current firmware?
(a)->Haven't put much thought in what new features I would like to see, but I would like to see customized extra features. For example: I'm a runner and I've seen a flash app that is a stop watch, but you can't listen to your music. Lost the use of the device when you started using the app. Also, not 100% sure, but I think using a flash app rather than the system language might suck up more battery.
(b)->I wish there was a way to preview themes without applying them.
EDIT: Thanks to 1Clix2, here is a post with a summary of everyone's desired features and complaints. Thanks!
EDIT: Updated again, a compiled list of desired features.

Songs submenu for Artist; instead of having to choose Play All or go into albums.
Auto playlists: Recently added, Most played, etc.
Better shuffle: clix2 tends to linger around an artist more than other players; needs better random algo.
Adjustable volume range: volume goes up to 40 but highest I set was 15.
I found volume 1 too loud when I'm on the bed getting ready to sleep; not to mention the hiss - and no, it's not the headphone.
Also volume increment needs to be more subtle, there's too much jump between levels.
Would be nice if these changes/fixes are made but I'm not holding my breath..

Breaking to what degree? Sounds like a faulty Clix2.

I love most of the features you suggest. I understand where you're coming from with the sub-menu organization. I use this method for my main collection, but it's not great to use on a Clix since all my songs don't go on the player. Maybe 3-4 songs from one artist sometimes. Although, I don't use the volume increment feature and I commonly don't use random.

A feature so that it turns off automatically after a while if there is no song playing, if there isn't one already.

The auto shutoff already exists.
I'd like a bug fix where if the database hasn't been updated in a while the fast forward and rewind buttons stop working properly. The improved random algorithm would be good too.

Somewhere around here I posted my observations on the random function and to me it apeared to be pretty darn good. Can you elaborate on what it is that you don't like? Also the way you navigate to your music can make a difference.

well, this is pretty minor complaint, but I noticed today that when using the radio you can't just click once and hold it and get to any radio frequency. You have to keep clicking (I guess because of the search feature). Kind of annoying if you aren't using a preset and you need to go from one end of the fm spectrum to the other. Have to say though I was impressed by the radio overall. Oh yeah, one other thing, seems like if you leave the radio screen the radio goes off, unlike what happens if you're listening to a song. Would be nice if it didn't.

Am I missing something?
When I choose "Play All", the Clix plays random songs, but it's the SAME random songs each time I choose this option!
Shouldn't it randomize them each time and bring up a new list? I'm stuck having to listen to the SAME random songs, unless I skip songs, which if I need to skip alot of songs is a pain and inconvenient.
If I'm missing a setting and someone could point it out, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks

I can't say much about clix2 (since I haven't had one), but assuming clix2 random option is similar to clix1 in design than I got random songs every time I use 'Play All'.
I just tried three time and each time I got different songs in sequence.

Are you using "Play All" while still playing the shuffled list? That is the only way I can see this happening...
You might consider setting your smart button to "Shuffle All" - it might work out easier for you.

Wasn't really a mistake, just something the developers didn't think about...

I can't remember if someone mentioned this somewhere, but it'd be nice if you could still browse your clix while it is plugged in to your computer. Not sure if most players don't allow this? Kind of annoying to be testing themes and have to unplug it, change the theme to view it, then plug it back in to delete it if I don't like it, then unplug it again to see the next one.

Sophie, can't you change the USB setting to do this? I don't have my clix on me right now but in the advanced menu you can select between something like "Power and data" and "power and play". I think the second one should work for you?
